Whats new in CallManager 8.6 - recap

Looks like Cisco has published the CUCM 8.6 datasheet, by adding it to the 8.5 one, which means it is time to go over my posts about it and point out topics that need to be added.

First of, here is the link to the new datasheet:

Cisco Unified Communications Manager Version 8.5 with 8.6 Data Sheet

Here are the additions to the previous posts on the subject:

  1. The underlying OS is being upgraded to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5 from version 4.5 in Call Manager 8.5 .
  2. The datasheets are clarifying the third party servers support topic in and outside of a VMware environment. In version 8.5 HP and IBM are supported on a non virtualized server (just like it always was) and in 8.6 IBM and HP are supported on a virtualized platform. In the past the virtualized server support was related to version 8.5 but it looks like the official answer is 8.6.
  3. The supported users per server ratio has increased, along with other scalability related topics:
    • Up to 10,000 users per server pair.
    • Up to 10,000 CTI-enabled users per server pair.
    • Increased TFTP scalability.
    • Directory scale enhancements ~ 160,000 users.

That's the gist of it, other enhancements for Video and Energywise were already covered in previous posts:
